May is preservation month! To celebrate, Rae and Andi talk about their own path to preservation, and share some favorite preservation-related songs. You have three playlists to choose from below: Rae’s, Andi’s, and Andi’s teen daughter’s. Do you prefer the middle age jams or the teen bops? Do you have songs of your own to share? Let us know!

So fun, thanks for sharing! Daria’s playlist reminded me of this playlist from The War on Cars. So not exactly preservation, more urbanist focused (lots of songs about walking, biking, trains, and cities). Enjoy! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6smmKGG4FsYVNfVdYWW3t8
I love this urbanism playlist!! Thanks for the recs. This will be perfect for my next road trip.
Congratulations Rae & Andi on your first year—how time flies when you’re having fun! Have listened since Ep. 1, and every episode is a treat. As far as your growth, you have come leaps and bounds from your start—not that your early episodes were less good than the new episodes, but your ease of banter and familiarity with the listener—drawing them in as an unseen/unheard third party is just so much more natural now.
I for one have learned things I never even knew I wanted to—and everything I’ve learned in this podcast has come up in a later conversation, or I’ll recognize something in the “real world” and relate it back—I’ve even done some research on topics that sparked my interest.
This is a great podcast, and one that I hope continues for years (as long as you all are enjoying it!)
** Songs I would add to an Architecture Playlist:(you already got my 2 Hendrix choices)
Norwegian Wood — The Beatles
White Room — Cream
Folsom Prison Blues — Johnny Cash
House Rent Blues — George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers
Buddy Guy — Sweet Home Chicago (a stretch, I know)
Gary Moore — Parisienne Walkways
Bob Marley — Concrete Jungle
White Houses — Vanessa Carlton
Thank you so much for the kind words. And love the songs you added!! White Room is a personal favorite.
I immediately thought of Tom Waits when listening to your conversation about music that evokes historic preservation. So many of his songs are about decay and wistful memories of what is past and breaking down.
Just a couple titles
The House Where Nobody Lives (Mule Variations)
Town with No Cheer (Swordfish Trombones)
And
The live album: Nighthawks at the Diner. Just so many architectural references, whether literally or metaphorically.
