Episode 21: An Ode to Otis

In this episode, Rae and Andi give proper respect to the inventor of the safety elevator and cities today as we know them: Elisha Otis. Escalators, steel, and some *really* dangerous contraptions also get a mention. Going up!

  1. I love listening to you two having such fun together, and today’s podcast brings 2 things to mind. First, it was THIS WEEK that I learned that the verb “escalate” is a back-formation from escalator, not the other way around! Andie might have known this as she knew that escalator derives from elevator.
2nd, bc you both love the Fredericksburg Cemetery, a collateral descendant of A. W. Wallace (mausoleum) told me a family tale about Mrs. Wallace, which involves an elevator, and which I’ll need to tell you in person 😬.
